WHAT THE DERMATOLOGIST HAS TO SAY ABOUT SEVERE DANDRUFF CONDITIONS OR SCALP PRONE TO SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS

Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp is characterized by fairly thick, oily dandruff and red plaques associated with intense itching. These clinical signs in the scalp may also be observed on the face and/or torso. In this case, the most bothersome symptom is the redness associated with the small scales. Although not a severe condition, its chronic development and high visibility can negatively impact quality of life. An adapted treatment and complementary care routine are therefore necessary to reduce these visible symptoms and decrease the frequency of flare-ups as much as possible. Three elements have now been identified to explain the origin of seborrheic dermatitis: excess sebum, which leads to the proliferation of a certain yeast (Malassezia) which in turn triggers inflammation.
